Why are my dog's paws red and he's licking them while on Apoquel?

Pet's info: Dog | Basset Hound | Male | 1 year and 4 months old | 70 lbs

Hi! I have a question about my bassett hound. Lately he has been licking and nibbling at his paws.. mostly in between at the beds.. I looked at them today and they are REALLY red. He has been taking some allergy medicine prescribed by our vet called aproquel. I give him.one tablet a day. And have been for about 2 months.He originally had an infection in his ears that spread to his tummy..I gave him his medicine and now I am worried about the redness though.. what might this be caused from

That does look really red! More than likely, it is caused by his allergies. The Apoquel is a great allergy medicine that seems to work very well but he may need an additional medicine to try and get this flare up under control. He might need an antihistamine for a little bit so you could call your vet and see if he/she would prescribe an anti-histamine. If there is any evidence of infection than he might also need an antibiotic to treat. You could also soak his paw in a warm Epsom salt solution and see if that helps with the redness and itching. Using Mal-A-Ket wipes may also help.
