My dog has itchy skin. Should I test her for environmental allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | spayed | 4 years and 4 months old | 85 lbs

Would it be recommended that I have my dog tested to see what she could be allergic to? She has been on so much stuff to no avail. Her skin gets hot and she gets itchy and she scratches herself until she gives herself secondary infections. She does not have fleas. And we have narrowed down that it is not a food allergen as we have tried so many hypoallergenic food and she still had the same symptoms. So her allergy would be environmental. But we don't know what it is.

Hi there! Thanks for letting us help you today! Yes, I absolutely recommend that you have Halo tested for environmental allergies. You have done a great job so far in ruling out the other two. This will help identify the type of allergens she may be allergic too and get the right therapy for her. I can tell you from experience that even though the journey of finding out the type of allergy is frustrating, it is so worth it at the when they start feeling better. Good luck!
