Why does my cat keep getting colds after playing with water?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | unspayed | 9 months and 20 days old | 6.61 lbs

Zinnie catches cold n cough very quickly and as human kids she always gets cough n cold on climate change. Is this normal? Actually wenever we open tap to fill a bucket she rushes to bathroom. She loves watching tap water falling in bucket and sometime she just puts her head u der tap. So max of the times her forhead is wet which is why she catches cold. I hope its common in cats

The desire for running water is normal in cats and you can even purchase recirculating water fountains for cats. As for the cold like symptoms (sneezing, runny nose / eyes) many cats can get herpes virus that can flare up and cause these symptoms. I would ask your vet if you can pick up a Lysine supplement for cats to start Zinnie on as this will lessen the flare ups. One product we use here for this is Duralactin with Lysine. You may be able to find this online. If the symptoms are worsening, I would get her in to see your vet sooner rather than later as some infections need antibiotic therapy. Hope this helps!
