What's this red spot on my ferret's chin? Is it from a bath or scratch?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Exotic | Unknown - Exotic | Male | neutered | 1 year and 9 months old | 2 lbs

My ferret has a small spot that just appeared on his chin within the last 1-2 days. No change in behavior. It's little reddish brown spots that look like he might have scratched himself too hard and caused irritation. Should I be worried? He's almost two and has had all his shots and no change in diet or potty habits. We've moved twice this summer and the vet just saw him ~2 weeks ago and said he was normal. I have him a bath with blue dawn dish soap yesterday and think that may have caused it

Hi there! It's hard to tell from the picture but it does look like Loco might have a little scrape or scab on his chin. It may be due to irritation from his bath or trauma if he has been scratching at it. Keep a close eye on it - if it spreads or worsens, swells, seems painful, or begins oozing, take him back in to see your veterinarian. You can gently clean it with warm water and try to apply some Neo-Sporin but Loco may rub it off! Good luck and I hope Loco feels better soon!
