Is wet dog food enough for my small dog who won't eat kibble?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 2 years and 3 months old | 4 lbs

Jade will not eat dry food. I have been feeding her 'Nutro Petite Eats' in beef, chicken, and lamb varieties. Is just the wet entree dog foods sufficient as meals 2 times a day or should I be mixing them with dry food? Thanks!

Hello and thank you for your post! In regards to these types of meals, they are meant to be full meals. However, most of these are high in fat and can cause dietary indiscretion. I would be concerned about weight gain with these meals. I typically prefer more balanced foods such as Science Diet, Royal Canin, Eukanuba or natural balance.

I think what you are doing is perfect. It's ok if Jade doesn't like dry food. I would prefer her eat wet dog food rather than people food, which is what a lot of people do when their dogs don't like kibble. Since she is a small dog, one of the packets per meal should be sufficient. Just keep an eye on her weight, make sure she is not gaining or losing it too drastically. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck!
