My senior cat is not himself after anesthesia. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | neutered | 8.5 lbs

My 14 year old cat has recently had an anesthesia so the vet could get his ingrown claw out (he would not let them do it any other way) and ever since that he is not himself again. He took very long to come back to himself after the anesthesia and since then he started being very passive about everything, he sleeps way more then he used to, and barely meows anymore. He does not seem to have any pains though, and the paw looks okay, but he acts completely different , what should we do?

It is very common for elderly cats to take longer to recover form the medications used during anaesthesia. Their liver and kidney function is not as good a cat younger then 7. However, if it has been longer then a week and you are still concerned I would advise mentioning this to the veterinarian who had performed the procedure during Kuzia's postoperative recheck.
