Poodle ears and cheatgrass: How to protect? Does mineral oil help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Female | 2 years and 3 months old | 54 lbs

How can I protect my dog from getting cheatgrass in her ears. She is a poodle. I was told applying mineral oil around the ears works. Thanks Patricia

Having her ear hairs clipped so that grass is less likely to have something to stick to would help. I would be hesitant about putting any picks near the ear. If you do use any I would advise a small amount of coconut oil. Rub it into your hands first so there is no excess dripping and rub into putter ears careful for no fluid to leak into the ear.
