Why is my rat having diarrhea & loud breathing after missing Baytril?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Other | Unknown - Other | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 19 days old

I was given baytril as precaution for my 2 rats (0.15ml X 2 daily for 5 days). I happened to miss a morning, continued administering it but then missed a whole day but still continued, wanting to give them the correct amount however I stopped at the last morning so effectively missed 2 days as I was unsure if giving them it so sporadically could harm them. Haku (the healthier boy originally) is now having sloppy poo and is squeaking when I pick him up, his breathing is sometimes louder. Is he ok

I would recommend to give them a full course without missing dosages as prescribed by your vet. If signs persist more than 48 hours since new start of treatment a check up would be necessary. The signs you are describing could be compatible with a gastrointestinal and possibly a respiratory tract infection. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.
