Why is my dog limping with a bleeding, warm paw after a hike?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 3 months old | 9.4 lbs

My dog rusty is 2 years old and he will not apply any pressure to his left paw in the back. We went to the beach and he was find and when we got home he lifted his leg when taking off in a sprint then again the next day after we went on a hike on rocks. Arpund 7:30 my parents told me he was bleeding on his paw and he makes a quite but loud enough to hear when really close to him when he does put pressure on it. His paw is warm to touch as well

You need to take Rusty to the vet today, the paw will need to be checked, by the sound of it it could be either an injury or a foreign body in the paw that will need to be removed. he will definitely need antibiotic and pain killers at the very least, hopefully it is something minor that will resolve within a few days with treatment.
