My dog choked on a treat. Was it too big or did she eat too fast?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 8 years and 6 months old | 4 lbs

She choked on a treat & it was the first time she ever has. They're little biscuits shaped like bones. When she first got them she would break them into pieces herself but then I started doing it for her but this time I didn't. Maybe she thought I had broken it for her? I literally had go in her mouth & pop out the chewed food, it felt like her throat opening was completely covered. Shes loves treats so maybe she was rushing or thought I broke it for her? It sent me into an immediate panic mode

Hi there! It is possible that she choke up on the treat just because it was too big or just because she ate it too fast. To be sure, it is always best to feed them treats that are not too big for their size as choking is always possible. I would ensure that they are small enough for her. I am sure you take great care of her and she will be just fine. This happens more commonly than you'd think. Have a good one! Best of luck with Precious!
