My dog's eye has tears, mucus, and is closing after a poke. Is it bad?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years old | 45 lbs

My dog's eye has tears with mucus from yesterday. Today, I saw my dog was sometimes closing her eye when she was standing. Otherwise she is normal. My son might have poked her eye yesterday.(He poked her eye a few times in the past.) Does the tear with mucus indicate that it's really bad injury? We have medicines. (Ofloxacin Ophthalmic solution USP 0.3%, Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates and Bacitracin Zinc) Because she got scratched her eye by a cat a year ago. Thank you!

First of all the drops from a year ago are not good anymore, you should chuck them away. it sounds as the injury might be serious, you will need to take Sunny to the vet in order to get the eye checked, hopefully the injury will not require surgery and a couple of eye drops like last time could solve the problem.
