Why is my male hamster constantly following and trying to mate with another?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Other | Unknown - Other | Male | unneutered

My hamster won't leave the other hamsters side. Where ever he goes he follows him. He also gets really close to his behind(even does it while he is running in his wheel). One keeps on trying to mate with the other but they are both boys so I don't understand why. He also gets really close to the other ones face. They don't fight but they are just always really close

Hello. Unneutered male hamsters will try to mate with other males if females are not around. Also, they are more likely to fight because they are unneutered. You can try getting them neutered in order to change the behaviour. Otherwise, you may have to separate them if they start fighting. I would suggest having them seen by your vet to discuss neutering. Best of luck with your little ones!
