Why is my dog holding up paw and licking it with no visible injury?

Question

My dog is walking great, no problems at all. But she holds up her left paw..outside, I think she may have stepped on something because she helped. She isn't having any issue walking but is licking it, I'm worried that this is serious. I checked her paw but I don't see any bleeding or sigh of injury. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 24 lbs

Holding it up and licking it are certainly signs of discomfort. A soft tissue injury is probably what is causing it. Complete rest and if the signs persist more than 48hours a check up and some anti-inflammatories would be the next steps to solve the problem and understand exactly the underlying cause it.
