Why is my dog holding up paw and licking it with no visible injury?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 24 lbs

My dog is walking great, no problems at all. But she holds up her left paw..outside, I think she may have stepped on something because she helped. She isn't having any issue walking but is licking it, I'm worried that this is serious. I checked her paw but I don't see any bleeding or sigh of injury.

Holding it up and licking it are certainly signs of discomfort. A soft tissue injury is probably what is causing it. Complete rest and if the signs persist more than 48hours a check up and some anti-inflammatories would be the next steps to solve the problem and understand exactly the underlying cause it.
