My dog's paws are burned and peeling. Should I take my dog to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 1 year and 9 months old | 65 lbs

My dog's paws were burned yesterday while she was playing outside. She was playing around outside with another dog for a few hours. There was some areas of concrete, but she did have plenty of access to grass. The other dog is perfectly fine, but our dog has three injured paws. Two are peeling back badly with pieces hanging off and revealing the pink underlayer, while the other just has a smaller burn. We cleaned and wrapped her paws, but I'm wondering if there is more that a vet should do.

I would definitely recommend taking Daisy to the vet. She may need topical medication, very likely needs pain medication and possibly antibiotics as well. Burns on the feet can take a long time to heal but proper care from the start will help them heal faster. I hope Daisy feels better soon.
