Shih Tzu's smelly ear discharge: drops aren't working. What's next?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 3 years and 10 months old

My shitzu has thick brown discharge coming from one of his ears and it smells I'm cleaning it everyday but it's getting no better it's been happening for months I've had him to the vets and they keep giving me drops but they don't seem to be doing anything now and again I will get a couple of days were it's not so bad but most days it's thick is there anything else I can do

Hello, sorry to hear about Norman. It may be best to consult with a dermatologist about this issue. It's likely that Norman has a predisposing issue that is causing him to be more prone for getting these recurrent ear infections. The predisposing factors may include narrow ear canals, underlying allergies, or an underlying metabolic disease such as Cushings disease. You may ask your veterinarian to refer you to a dermatologist or call one directly yourself. Best of luck and hope this helps.
