My sick stray kittens have eye infection, wheezing, fleas. Will they be okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 9 days old | 2 lbs

I picked up two sick stray kittens and they seem to have an eye infection that has yellow coloring around eyes and the third eyelids will not go away, there is a bone in their chest poking out, they had diarrhea (now they do not) they are fairly tiny (one over eats &a one under eats) their gums are normal looking, pretty bad fleas, and wheezing. My friend is a vet tech and thinks it's FCV. Help? What else could it be? They are around 6 weeks old. Going to vet tomorrow. Is there a chance for em?

What cute kitties. I agree that upper respiratory infections caused by either calicivirus or herpesvirus is usually the culprit when dealing with stray kitties. I am. It sure what bone you are referring to without seeing it in person, but I would have to guess that this is probably just their floating rib that is prominent because they are likely underweight. The fleas and upper respiratory infection should be a relatively easy fix through your vet with proper flea prevention, antibiotics and an anti-viral (i.e. Lysine powder or gel). Continue to wipe their eye discharge with a warm wat cloth until their vet appt. Good luck at the vet tomorrow, and I hope your kitties get better soon. Take care.
