My dog limps after a hike but shows no pain. What's the treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Female | spayed | 70 lbs

I took my 8 month old Rottweiler, Glitter, for about a 4 mile mike where she was running into rocky ponds and streams. She finished the hike without an issue but when we got home she was keeping weight off her right paw and began limping. She took it easy for a week and returned to normal play with our other dog. She still has a limp but doesn't pull away in pain when i check her paws and joints all the way up to her shoulder. If she did have something torn, what would be the treatment for her?

The treatment would be complete rest and anti-inflammatory medications for 4 days - a week time. I would recommend a check up as signs are quite persistent. A soft tissue injury is the most likely reason for it. The treatment for soft tissue injuries in the front leg would depend entirely on what exactly is damaged. There are many injuries to the front leg that are treated simply with confinement, anti-inflammatory medication, and pain management. There are more serious injuries involving the elbow and the associated structures where surgical intervention is recommended, depending on age, extent of injury, and the use of the animal. Hope this helps.
