My dog's face bump is draining after a bite. Is it infected?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 8 years and 1 month old | 28 lbs

My dog had a bump on her face and last night some stuff started draining. I flushed the would with a salt water mixture. Nothing is coming out any longer. I believe this started from a sting/bite that never fully healed

Poor Scarlet! Bites can frequently lead to abscesses, which are pockets of infection. It might be that the stuff you saw draining was pus, indicating infection. She needs to see a vet for this, as antibiotics are needed to treat any infection. The vet can flush the wound out as well. I would take her into a vet first thing in the morning.

It could be that Tank has an abscess. This commonly occur after animal bites and are very painful to the dog. He does need to see a vet tomorrow, as if he does have an abscess, it will need to be drained and flushed, and he will need antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

It sounds like Cujo has developed an abscess from this bite, and he needs veterinary attention now for it. The abscess needs to be drained and flushed sterilely, and he will need antibiotics to treat the infection. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

My do was bit by another dog and there was a wound open and bleeding so I tried to stop the bleeding and cleaned it properly. The wound stopped bleeding but over the course of 2 days there was a lump starting to develop which was full of dark blood.
It sounds like Scar has a hematoma (blood blister). It is not a good idea to drain it as that often times leads to you introducing an infection into the hematoma and then it will become an abscess. If it is bothering him then you should get him to a vet for treatment. If it is not bothering him then just leave it alone. Hematomas usually resolve on their own over time. Just keep in mind that it could take weeks to months to go completely away. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

My puppy had a raised red spot yesterday that the experts on pet coach said was likely a bug bite. Today it seems to have opened (see photos). I wiped it with soap and water and dried it yesterday. Anything I should do today? She still occasionally
This still could be an insect bite, but without being able to see and feel it in person it's impossible to know for certain what it may be. An abscess would be another possibility. Since it has opened and there appears to be some bruising surrounding it I would recommend taking Snickers to a veterinarian today. She may need antibiotics now that it is draining. I would recommend keeping the area clean in the meantime using just water on a washcloth and preventing her from licking it. She may need to wear an e-collar to keep her from licking.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This lump you describe could potentially be something like an abscess for example. However, other things are possible. If there is really an abscess, this should not be treated at home. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. My dog has a small bump on her face, it scabbed over but she had itched the hair off. We put a warm compress on it, applied Neosporin. Its been there for a couple days, now we are wondering if she needs to go to the vet. She has had bad allergies
I am sorry to hear about Daisy! Due to the size of this lesion and the fact that it isn't improving, I would recommend taking Daisy to the vet for examination of this swelling. I would be concerned that we could have a bacterial infection like an abscess, that this could be a spider bite or other insect bite, or possibly even a mass/tumor. The vet can examine the area and may try to aspirate the swelling (use a small needle to remove any fluid present or collect cells that may help identify the cause of the swelling and the best treatment). It's probably an infection that is spreading due to the bite, you must take her to the vet ASAP, the vet will drain the fluids that accumulated under the skin and prescribe antibiotics to fight the infection.

My dog just had a minor "fight" with my other dog & she ended up having a couple punctures on her chest. But i started noticing this lump on her chest.. I'm guessing fluid build up? Will it go away on its own? Or is there something I can do from home
I'm concerned this is an abscess. A dog's mouth has a lot of bacteria and Diamond was bitten by the other dog, it can cause an abscess. This cannot be treated at home. You need to have her seen by a vet today. It needs to be drained in a sterile manner, and she needs antibiotics and pain medication. I hope this helps!

Daisy sure is cute!! So sorry she is having this issue. That looks like an open wound that is oozing. The lump could be an abscess or cyst that has ruptured. I would not consider this an emergency but I would try to take her in for an exam during your vet's regular business hours. It is very hard for me to tell much without seeing her in person. Poor Sasha! It sounds like you might be seeing an abscess, which is an infection under the skin. It can cause swelling, pain on touch, a hot feeling and pop or ooze debris such as pus or discolored drainage. Any swelling on the face or neck is concerning, and abscesses can worsen quickly, so it is best to seek veterinary care ASAP. Your vet can safely drain it and may recommend leaving a drain in for a few days while providing antibiotics to help it heal.
