Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 11 years and 4 months old | 14 lbs

My Shih Tzu has an infection in his eye can I use eye drops called optimyxin until I can get him to his regular vet? Each ml has polymyxin B 10,000 units and gramicidin 0.025 mg.

As long as there are only the 2 antibiotics you mentioned in the eye drops and no steroids (like prednisone or hydrocortisone), it will be safe to use as previously prescribed. However, I recommend that Shilo see the vet as soon as possible for diagnosis as sometimes what appears to be an infection may actually be something else, like a corneal ulcer or dry eye.
