Pet's info: Dog | English Springer Spaniel | Male | neutered | 13 years and 4 months old | 50 lbs
Last year our dog had Lyme disease diagnosis. He was treated and responded perfectly! Lately he has had a cough, sounds similar to kennel cough, worse at night, retching sound and it's the same way he coughed with the Lyme disease. He is never around other dogs and except for the cough seems fine. No lose of appetite, lethargy etc. He is 13 years old. Is there something we should be doing for him for the cough? Doesn't seem to bother him but keeps us awake at night! Thanks in advance.im

I am sorry to hear about Hunter. I would strongly recommend an examination by your veterinarian which should include x-rays of his chest. In any older dog that is coughing we definitely want to evaluate for more serious concerns such as heart disease or tumors. We can also have infectious causes of cough including fungal disease, or we can see chronic bronchitis. Your vet can prescribe icough suppressant's and any other medications needed.
