Why is my old cat not using the litter box and has rice-like pellets?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed | 14 lbs

There are "rice pellets" at my cats butt hole....What else could it be if not worms. Took her to vet and had basic check-up and bloodwork...came back normal (kidney count a little high). She is now not going in the litter box anymore as well (16 yr old)

The only thing that can look like rice on a cat's anus is tapeworms, the treatment is very simple and you should stop seeing those a few days after the treatment was given. If she is not going to the litter box she is probably having a more serious problem, unless she has access to the outside in that case she might be doing her business there.
