Outdoor cat was hit by a vacuum. How long should I keep him indoors?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | 14 years and 2 months old | 14 lbs

A somewhat heavy vacuum cleaner fell and hit the neck and head of my cat. I've been sitting with it for the past 50 minutes and it seems to be acting and looking normal. I believe I'm supposed to keep an eye on him for 24 hours, though I want to mention that he is an outdoor cat and refuses to urinate anywhere except the outdoors -- he has gone to the hospital because of this when we tried to re train him as an indoor cat. Should I keep him indoors for the next 24 hours regardless? Other advice?

12 hours indoors would be enough. Sometimes bruises and sores can show up several hours after injury, but if he is acting fine right now it is unlikely to experience any problem. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.
