My dog has a growing, red, bleeding bump on her nose. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Female | spayed | 1 year and 4 months old | 51 lbs

My dog, 1 yr old aust. Shepherd, developed a small red, soft bump on her nose 4 days ago. Now it's grown to the size of a quarter and it's oozing a little blood. She doesn't have any other symptoms and it doesn't seem to bother her. Just wondering what this could be?

This looks like she had an infected area under the skin (an abscess) that has ruptured to the surface. That is good as the infection will drain. Clean the area with antibacterial soap, rinse well and you can apply a thin film of antibiotic ointment. It should heal in a few days.
