My two unneutered male cats are fighting. Why and what to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 8 lbs

2 cats, males, neither of them neutered. Both under 2 yrs of age, and I have had one only a few months longer than the other. They've always used the same box, ate out of the same containers, basically buddies with some playing here and there. All of a sudden they are at each others throats, a little over half of the day at a time, and cant seem to pass each other without howling/growling. Is there a reason why its happening now? And/or what steps can i take from here to prevent further actions

I would recommend getting them neutered as soon as possible. As they have gotten older they are becoming more aggressive and controlling of there territory. I would recommend neuter, increase number litter boxes, increase food and water dishes to start. Hopefully once all the added hormones are gone they will settle down
