Why is my 13-year-old Yorkie suddenly aggressive and biting me?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 11 lbs

I have a 13 year old Yorkie who has been a great, sweet dog but all of a sudden, maybe in the last year has become very aggressive, mostly with me, the owner. If he's on our bed and I go to reach for something over or near him, he'll sometimes attack my hand and has bitten me numerous times, not sure what's going on.

Poor Reggie! It's unusual to see aggression appear this late in life without an underlying medical cause, so I would be very concerned that something may be wrong. Reggie may be feeling sick or in pain for some reason, or he may have a neurologic problem such as a brain tumor causing this out-of-character behavior. I would recommend taking Reggie to the vet for a full exam and diagnostic work-up to help determine what may be causing him to act this way. Depending on what the underlying problem is, it may be treatable with medication.
