My puppy has bloody, mucusy poop after deworming, should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 3 months old | 15 lbs

Hi, I just took my 3 month old blue nose pit puppy outside to do her business. When I first got her, she had worms. SInce then I have given her 2 out of 3 treatments as she is not due for the last one for a few more days. So when She went poo today something seemed a bit off- so I decided to check it. It was very runny and had a large glob of a somewhat bloody, mucus like substance. I do not have money for her to go to a vet right now, and I am quite scared as I googled the possible causes.

Hello there and thank you for your post! With the history of intestinal parasites, it is likely that Nyx is experiencing a bout of colitis secondary to parasitic gastroenteritis. If Nyx is otherwise healthy and eating / drinking, I would monitor for the time being and get the 3rd treatment when it is due. If she becomes I'll and not doing well I would get her seen sooner rather than later. A bland diet of chicken and rice may do some good as well and feed this until the worms and stool issues have resolved. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
