My senior Corgi is vomiting clear liquid and won't eat. What to do?

Pet's info: Dog | Welsh Corgi | Female | 13 years and 3 months old | 22 lbs

13 year old welsh corgi vomiting(4 times in last 24 hrs). Clear mucus-type liquid. Drinking normally, but not eating. No fever apparent.

Oh no, poor Lexi! This vomiting could be caused by a GI illness, eating something rotten, or something more serious such as liver disease, kidney disease, or cancer among others. It's good that she is drinking, and as long as she is keeping down the water, I can give you a home remedy to try. Withhold food until tomorrow morning, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. I hope this helps and she feels better soon!

My mom has a 10 year old pom/poo that is having stomach issues. She has been throwing up. She refuses to eat dry dog food and we have been giving her the same dog food she usually eats. Do you suggest some medication we can add to her food?
Throwing up can have many causes such as a problem with the stomach and intestines caused by a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, an intestinal blockage, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc.  I would fast Misty for 24 hours and then put the dog on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the vomiting or if the vomiting increases, or if your dog gets lethargic, it needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.

Vomiting can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Lacy evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid she is likely becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and also check her hydration status and give her medications to make her feel better. Good luck!

Hello, sorry to hear about Vanilla. If she is done this once or twice, you should remove any food for the rest of the day and start her on a bland diet later on. This can be composed of plain white rice, skinless and boneless chicken, and low fat cottage cheese. If this does not improve her vomiting, or if she vomits more than 4 times in one day then Vanilla should be seen by a veterinarian today. This could be caused by a large number of things but in older dogs, inflammation of the intestines, a dietary indiscretion, liver disease, kidney disease, pancreatitis, or even some form of infection could cause vomiting in a dog. Restrict her activity as much as possible. Avoid stairs, running, jumping or rough play. You can use a towel or sheet as a sling to support Cinnamon when she needs to go out. Sling it under her abdomen and hold it as you would a briefcase. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte as long as she is not vomiting. A bland diet can also be offered. Serve warm or mix in a teaspoon or two of baby food to stimulate her appetite. You can also add warm water or low sodium chicken broth to her food to get her eating. Have her seen by your veterinarian first thing Monday morning.

Hi I'm sorry to hear that Sabo is unwell. There are many many potential causes for her to vomit frequently. With her age, I am concerned about kidney or liver issues. But also pancreatitis is common in her breed. Take her to your vet first thing tomorrow. They will run blood tests to check her internal organs.

Poor Lily sounds quite ill at the moment! I would be concerned that she is vomiting water if her throw is clear liquid, and in a senior dog, that can quickly lead to dehydration. I know it's Monday in Australia, so I would take her into a vet today. She may need a shot to stop the vomiting, and IV fluids for hydration. The vet can also diagnose the cause of the vomiting, which can include severe GI illness, eating something rotten, pancreatitis, or something more serious such as organ failure or cancer. You could feed boiled chicken breast and cooked white rice and see if she feels better within 24 hours. If she doesn't want to eat that or she continues vomiting she should probably get checked out by a vet since she is an older girl. If she isn't normally bothered by thunderstorms, then it is unlikely that they would cause her to lose her appetite this morning.
