My cat is 1 year old. Should she still eat twice daily like a kitten?

hey, i was just wondering how long do you class cats kittens for. my cat just turned one and im not sure if she still needs to be fed twice a day. thank you

Great question! Kittens are considered adults when they reach one year of age, but I'd still recommend feeding Merlin twice a day. Eating only once a day is a long time between meals, so it's best to break up her daily allotment of food into two equal portions to be fed twice a day. I hope this helps :-)

Great question! You have two options with feeding Uli. There will be a daily allotment of food to be fed on her food bag, and you can either leave the food out all day for her to eat whenever she wants, or you can divide it up into two equal portions. Give one of the portions in the morning and one at night. At her age, she should still be on a kitten formulated food. Once she is 12 months of age, you can switch her to an adult food. Hello, depending on her lifestyle, indoor only cats should be fed atleast twice daily. This can be a variety of dry and wet food and should not exceed more than 1 cup of dry food per day or more than 1 can per day. There may be differences depending on how many calories each food contains so it is hard to determine this. Your kitten should be consuming around 201 Kcal per day. Hope this helps and best of luck.

First I'd like thank every one of the vets who helps us. Noushmc loves to eat every two hours or maybe less. Each portion a size of one teaspoon. Should I feed her ? She doesn't accept gifts! She wants only food !
She is very young so she can eat small quantities every couple hours, that's absolutely fine, in the future it might be better if you extend time between meals though, usually two large meals a day are enough for an adult cat.

When should I start feeding my kitten adult food? She's almost 11-months-old now. And when I do, should I just switch to the adult version of the brand I'm already feeding her? Thank you!
I recommend switching to adult right at 1 year of age, but if you wanted to make the transition now I think that would be fine. If she seems to be doing well on her current food it's a good idea to stick with the same brand.

Yes, you are correct that you need to make the switch from kitten food to adult food, and I would recommend doing it slowly to avoid GI upset. Start adding in adult food to her kitten food, and over the course of two weeks, increase the amount of adult food and decrease the amount of kitten food until she is eating the adult food only. Other than that, the only thing you need to make sure to do is get her vaccines boostered :-)

Since I just got Naia and her vet appointment isn't till Saturday I was wondering if 7 month old cats need special food or if they can eat adult food? Also, how much shoule I be feeding her?

Kittens until they are the age of 12 months should be fed a kitten food to support their growth needs. Each bag of food has a different daily allotment, so feed her according the instructions on her bag of food. How many times & how much food should a two year old cat give?
In the wild, cats eat anywhere for 9-16 times a day. That means their metabolisms are geared to run at all times. I recommend to feed 4 - 6 small meals a day. Hi Ashley! I typically prefer keeping all growing cats on kitten food until they are 1 year old. Since Mars seems to be gaining too much weight on the kitten food, consider cutting back on his portion rather than switching to adult food. There is no need to worry about feeding some adult food tonight. Simply go back to kitten food tomorrow and hang onto his adult food in a sealed container for a few more months. When possible, Mars should be fed 2 meals per day. Use the chart on his bag of food to get a sense for how much he should eat based on his weight (use his ideal body weight rather than his current weight since he is overweight) and age. Strictly control how many treats he receives and avoid any table food, as these tend to be the biggest culprits in weight gain.

The amount that you should feed Kuzco will vary widely depending upon the type of kitten food that you choose. Every food has a different calorie density to kibble or canned food. As she grows, the best thing you can do is to read the bag for her age and body weight, and follow the chart on the food. If you are feeding a canned diet (or a mix of canned and dry foods), reputable food companies have feeding guides on their websites for a kitten's age and body weight. Kuzco should eat a food formulated for kittens for the first year of life and then be transitioned over to an adult cat food, but anytime you make a change in diet, be sure to do so by gradually mixing the foods over 5-7 days. Is my kitten eating enough? The food bag says she should be eating 1/2 cup of food 3 times a day but she eats that much only about once a day. I am feeding her Purina kitten chow dry food
The 1/2 cup is the DAILY amount she should be fed, and then divide that into 3-4 feedings. Since she is only really eating once a day, you would be fine just putting 1/4 cup of kitten chow in her bowl twice a day so that there is always something fresh in the bowl.
