My dog has a painful paw pad bump. Should I see a vet or wait?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Female | spayed | 9 years and 6 months old | 17 lbs

My dog has a bump on her pad ( one of the middle ones. I noticed her hopping 8 days ago but she doesn't seem to have any pain, I inspected all paw and leg and no issues but the bump. I started to clean her paw with iodine 3 days ago and seems a bit better she walks with all paws on concrete but once on grass she keeps the paw in the air. The paw still has the bumb and if I touch it she reacts with discomfort. I am giving her meloxican (anti inflamatory), does she needs antibiotics or time ?

Hello, sorry to hear about Nina. Foot pads are very sensitive and if could be that she needs to fully heal before she can go back to her normal self. My concern is that she may have something on that bump, like a thorn or splinter that is causing her to have continued pain. I would ensure you don't see any thing of the sort, or have your veterinarian take a look at it so that if there is something there it can be removed. The iodine is a good antimicrobial agent, but it does slow down healing time with repeated use. Best of luck and hope Nina feels better soon.
