My dog is lazy and not eating after illness. How to make him active?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | 8 months and 18 days old | 16 lbs

I have 2 dogs and the eldest one is 9 months old and was quite active and would always run around the house and playing every time. He would never be tired but a month ago he got sick and recovered since then we keep him inside the house in AC. He has become quite lazy and week and foes not eat much as well. Please suggest a way to make him active again!

I would worry that Popcorn may be lethargic due to an underlying medical condition since this started when he became sick. I would recommend having him examined by your veterinarian to make sure he is healthy, especially since he is not eating as much. If he is healthy you could set aside some time each day to play with him, but he may or may not increase his activity level on his own. Dogs start to have less energy and less interest in play as they get older, so it is also possible that Popcorn is just less active as he reaches adulthood.
