Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | 80 lbs

I used a new type bronco fly spray on my dog. But I think he had a reaction to it. His ears are now peeling and painful. Hair loss and the skin is raw and red. What can i do for him

Poor Yukon! This certainly sounds like a reaction to the spray. I would recommend giving Yukon a nice bath-Blue Dawn dish soap is gentle and will help to remove any of the spray still on his skin. Be sure and use cool water as hot water can make the irritation worse. It would then be good for Yukon to have a checkup with your regular vet to ensure the skin sores are not getting infected, and perhaps to get some pain medication if he is painful. I would also discuss with your vet what would be a safer and more appropriate fly repellant. Some of the topical flea and tick preventatives also are effective against flies-your vet can let you know what they carry and what products they find effective in your area.
