My pregnant cat is twitching and vocal. Is she going into labor soon?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 7 months old | 0 lbs

My cat is pregnant and shes laying with me and I noticed that she's laying on her back with her legs in the air and her legs keep twitching and shaking. She's been much more vocal today and it seems like she gets uncomfortable and moves around a lot. I was wondering if this means she's getting ready to go into labor? But she hasn't looked for a nesting area so I'm not sure. Also I plan to get her and the kittens fixed once they are ready so no worries about that. Thanks (:

This could be a sign that labor is near however it could be normal behavior for this stage of pregnancy. I would monitor Kawaii for any vaginal discharge, appetite change, hiding behavior or active contractions. If you notice any of those signs it is a more reliable indicator of labor. If she has any green discharge, contractions without producing any kittens, or has a foul smelling vaginal discharge she needs to be examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible.
