My cat is afraid of us. How can I get him to bond with our family?

How do I make my cat like me. He seems to be afraid of us, even though we had him since he was born. Nothing is working. I tried playing with him, I tried feeding him cat treats out of my hand, he ate, but still doesn't like me or anyone in my family. I'd be very pleased if you would help. I would suggest neutering him. It may not solve the issue fully but may make him less prone to want to wander off. The other tip is time. Be patient, he may get more cozy in time.
