Why does my dog have frequent erections and slow penis retraction?

My dog has started to suffer from unexplained large erections which generally last for about ten minutes or so. He stands still and tends to thrust. A small amount of clear liquid is expelled. The base of his penis becomes very hard. After calming him the erection subsides but his penis takes a long while to retract into the sheath. After these episodes he quickly returns to his normal playful self. What can I do to help him. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 9 years and 2 months old | 17 lbs

It could be due to a prostate disease, you should take him to the vet in order to have his prostate checked, if it is enlarged the vet should advise having him neutered ASAP. there is a good chance that it could solve the problem.
