My small dog limps from an old cruciate tear. Is surgery best?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My small dog partially tore her cruciate. We put her in braces for 7 months but stopped as they were digging in to her back. She has been doing well on a flexi leash and I have allowed her to play a little. Recently she has been more lame but warms out of it. Should I restrict her again or get a consult for surgery?

I think it would be worth a surgical consult if you're able. That doesn't mean you have to do the surgery but can help you make an informed decision. They may also have a physical therapy option that could be helpful with or without surgery.
