Why is my cockatiel throwing up, drinking excessively, and sleepy?

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | 1 year old

Cockatiel drinking a lot of water within 10 minute spans and throwing it back up. Quiet, sleepy not playful anymore. Moving around slow.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear that Baby is having trouble. Sounds like you need to take him to your veterinarian due to the behavior and clinical signs that you are describing. Your vet can perform a physical exam and then advise some tests to try to determine what is going on. They can run some quick tests in house such as a fecal wet mount and fecal smear to evaluate the organisms present. Birds can get something called AGY or Avian Gastric Yeast which can cause these types of problems. Also foreign bodies can be ingested even if the bird is caged constantly from toys, cage covers, etc. A cloacal swab can be obtained and sent out as well as bloodwork and x-rays. Once all of the tests are completed, a sound treatment plan can be put into place. So Sorry you are experiencing this problem with Baby. Good Luck
