Can rabies from dog saliva on clothes spread in the washing machine?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Cousin has Dogs, and I'm not sure if their updated on their Rabies shots as she wouldn't tell me. I was around them when I had to feed them, cause shes away for a few days and I was trying to be careful about not getting ANY of their saliva on me because I just don't know and She does have Bats at her house. My question would be, I took my clothes off to change when I got home and threw them in the wash with the REST of my clothes, Can I rewash/dry ALL of them without worrying about anything?...

Rabies does not live on surfaces for long. It should be fine to wash and dry clothes as normal. The primary worry would be if you were bitten by one of the dogs. Please encourage her to get the up to date. There are many low cost vaccine clinics available in most areas of the US
