My cat won't stop chewing her skin raw. Is it allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 8 months old | 8 lbs

What could possibly be wrong with my cat? She was found outside 2 years ago with a huge wound on her back. It has since healed, but anytime she has her e-collar off she makes wounds on herself. She has been on steroids, prescription food, allergy medicine. I have tried ointments on her, baths, natural products, things to put in her food and water. Nothing helps! She always wants to chew her skin to the point she makes ugly, bleeding wounds. She doesn't seem to get relief from anything.

I'm sorry to hear Momo isn't feeling well. It does sound and look like there is an underlying allergy. First , make sure she is on a flea prevention from a vet that is given every 30 days. After that, talk with your vet about allergy testing for things in her environment like grasses, weeds, pollens, mites, etc. Allergies are not cured but they can be managed. Good luck and kisses to Momo!
