My dog's penis ulcer and bloody discharge aren't improving with meds.

Our bishon boy have like an ulcer inside his penis and have discharges with blood. Giving presvribed antibiotics from saturday but not getting better

There can be several causes for what you have shown in the picture, including infection, cancer, bleeding/clotting disorder, trauma, or foreign body (something stuck in the pouch between the skin and penis that is rubbing). If the antibiotics that your vet described several days ago have not made any difference, then I recommend that you take Hugas in for a recheck examination. It may be that the bacteria did not respond to that particular antibiotic, or that the problem is not caused by bacteria and another treatment should be discussed.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco. I see what you are talking about and I would describe them as erosions or ulcers. Honestly I’ve not see this on the penis like this before but I would start with topical therapy. So gently rinse the whole penis with diluted iodine or chlorhexidine solutilon. Then pat dry, put on some sterile lubricant and replace the penis. I would do this once daily for a few days to see if that helps. Other thoughts are an antibiotic trial, and antifungal trial. a culture of the area, a biopsy (maybe, if deemed possible by your vet) or, if getting much worse or spreading, talk to your vet about the pros and cons of a course of steroids in case it is some unusual auto-immune disease. Hades may have an enlarged prostate or prostate inflammation which often causes such bleeding. You can check his penis carefully by moving the sheath off the penis. THe penis should not have any damage, scabs and there should not be any excessive discharge. You may see a small amount of yellowish smegma. If there is an injury, discoloration or a lot of pus, he needs to be seen by your veterinarian again. If there is a chronic problem it may be a good idea to have him neutered as this will make the prostrate shrink and stop excessive purulent discharge.

I don't know what's wrong with my dog. He was looking sad when I came home. I noticed drops of blood on the floor. And I started to check him out and noticed his penis is swollen and has a open wound. His testicles are not swollen. Only his penis. I
Poor guy! I'm sorry to hear that's happening. Looking at the pictures, and depending on his age, I would be concerned it may actually be a tumor that has broken open. (This is more likely if he is an older guy). It may also be that there was some trauma, or was a small trauma that became an abscess or infection. Regardless of the cause, call your vet and get him in as soon as you can. At the very least, your vet can give you some medication to make him more comfortable. There is no way to effectively bandage this area at home, as we don't want to block his penis, because if urine collected in a bandage it would only make things worse. Please refrain from giving him any over the counter pain medication until you see your vet. Best of luck to you both. Thanks for asking Boop by Petco!

Hello, sorry to hear about Oscar. He could have an infection of his prepuce or penis. Additionally, he could have a UTI or urinary stones. Ideally, he should be examined by his veterinarian so that they can evaluate his penis, prepuce and look for evidence of stones or a UTI. Look for straining to urinate, persistent blood in urine, and leaking urine. If you note any of these, then have Oscar evaluated sooner. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Hello. With the chronic nature & non responsiveness to medications of this condition, I would be suspicious of a foreign object high up in the fornix of the sheath. It can be something as tiny as a piece of plant material like a grass awn or cedar chip or a tiny piece of stick. It is generally pretty easy to do the exam under anesthesia, but sometime it requires the use of a rhinoscope or bronchoscope to really get a 360 degree view of things all the way back. My dog had been bleeding from his Penus a few weeks ago and he stopped. Today I noticed that he has started back. Last time this happened I was told to give him Vitamin C,antibiotics and lots of water. Should I try this method again?
I strongly recommend you get a urine sample fully analyzed to find out why this is returning. Urinary crystals/stones, infection or prostate disease may all be contributing and repeated symptoms after only a few weeks suggest the underlying cause has not been addressed

We have boxer that has bloody discharge from his penis. He has been throwing up today and we just noticed bright red blood from his penis. What could cause this. It just stsrted.
This could be caused by a variety of problems starting from a lesion on the penis itself (usually infective or traumatic), a urinary tract inflammation/infection, a problem related to the prostate (infection/inflammation and, depending on his age, a tumor could be included in the list). A check up and further diagnostic tests (urine analysis and possibly ultrasound of the prostate and samples from there) would be useful to understand exactly the underlying cause and decide appropriate treatment. I am sorry to hear about your dog! I would recommend bringing him in for an examination by a veterinarian given your description and this photo. We could have something like an abscess or cellulitis developing if the area is swollen and bruised, and the penis itself should be examined. We can also get infections inside the prepuce (the sheath of skin covering the penis) that may require antibiotics and it sounds like he could benefit from pain medication as well.

My dog has a wound on its membrane of the penis but it is not bleeding
This presentation could be due to a trauma and localized secondary skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching. An immediate check up at your local veterinarian is needed.
