My cat has asthma and won't take oral meds. Are shots an option?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 11 lbs

Claire was diagnosed with Feline Asthma and prescribed 0.16ml of Prednisolone by mouth every 12 hours. At the moment she refused to take it and it take two people to give it to her and most times some of the dose is missed due to the struggle. I also currently work 12's at the hospital and can be 1-2 hours late on a dose. Is there better options I was informed of a shot but would like a second opinion before I call the vet tomorrow.

There is an injection called depo medrol, i personally do not recommend it as potential side effects can be very serious. the better option in my opinion are tablets, prednisolone tablets for cats are very small and easily hidden in gravy or wet food. most cats eat the wet food and never even suspect there is a tablet inside. it's not a big deal if you are 1-2 hours late.
