My dog has a black wart that bleeds and keeps growing. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | unneutered | 5 years and 3 months old

My dog has this black wart. It started off as a tiny bump as small as a half grain of rice. Eventually, we discovered that whenever something bumps into it, it bleeds and grows as the time goes by. What could this be?

I recommend that you have this mass evaluated by a veterinarian. It sounds like it may be some type of cancer; whether benign or malignant would need additional diagnostics such as fine needle aspirate in a clinic or removal and histopathology. Possibilities include papilloma, hemangioma, mast cell tumor, among many other possibilities. If it is bleeding, you can apply firm pressure for 15 minutes.
