Dog won't eat kibble after chicken, got sick. How to get her to eat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | spayed | 15 lbs

My dog has been eating her kibble for her whole life (she's a year old) but about a week ago my mother fed her some chicken we had for dinner and ever since my dog refuses to eat her kibble. I wouldn't mind feeding her chicken but it made her throw up twice and she's had diarrhea. We tried giving her new kibble, wet dog food, treats but she only wants the chicken. My mom keeps sneaking her chicken since she's scared Lulu will starve but it's only making it worse. Help?!

Hello! Thank you for posting your question! It sounds like Lulu as quite the taste for chicken now! If Lulu didn't throw up with the chicken I would say it's alright to mix some of the chicken in with her hard food. Have you tried adding a small amount of chicken broth to her food? That might entice her to eat her dry food again. If she likes that, it is alright to use a small amount of the broth with each meal just to add to the palatability. I hope this helps! Please feel free to contact me with any further questions or concerns you may have. I am also available via consultation.
