My pregnant dog ate a cherry with the pit. Will it harm puppies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 4 years and 7 months old | 9 lbs

My dog is over a month pregnant and today I was serving some dark cherries to my husband to take to work and one fell on the floor. My dog immediately took it and ate it with stem and seed, but just one. Should I be worried? Can something happen to the puppies? I am extra worried because I have to leave the house soon and won't be back for at least 4 hours. What should I expect?

Typically Cherries do not have reports of causing toxicity or issues in animals. I would monitor Maia for vomiting and diarrhea. IF you see any vomiting and diarrhea I would take her to a vet for a food exam. However I think the likeliness she would have a problem is small.
