Itching on the hind end is most often due to fleas. Check that the tick product you used on Prince covers fleas as well. Also make sure that the product you use will kill fleas at every stage in their life cycle - not just the adult fleas. Keep applying the topical medications prescribed by your veterinarian in case there is a skin infection. If this does not resolve the issue you should go back to your vet for further diagnostics. Since some metabolic diseases can cause hair loss, your vet will want to do blood work as the next step. Allergies can also cause itching and skin infections so speak with your vet about anti-allergy medications.

It's difficult for me to tell what happened without looking at the dog, but I think the hair that came out may have been old hair. They often have a buildup of old hair in their hind end when they are shedding; and it doesn't come out easily. If you haven't been brushing in the last month or longer, then the hair can build up and it will make him itchy. In this case, it would be good that the hair came out and nothing to worry about. If all the hair came off and now he's bald back there, then that is a problem. I would definitely be wandering what that lotion is and would want to evaluate the dog. It's best if you talk to the vet (not a compounder) if you had this problem. It should not be a serious problem, but good to have it checked. I hope this helps.
