Why does my cat have new lumps under her skin? Is dog food the cause?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Exotic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 5 months old | 6 lbs

My cat has lumps on her underside there under the skin. I thought fatty tissue but not so sure. She did eat mainly dog food for many months (not my doings) so I'm wondering if tht can be the cause? She is lil over a yr old and a person. Pics are hard to tell but if u look close u can see them down by her tail on her belly. none her nips have knots under them. She has several small ones in a cluster down by tail and one under her arm pit.. these also just showed up within the last 3 weeks or so

You are right, in that it is very difficult to make out any lumps or bumps on your kitty's belly. I do not think that the diet you were feeding was the likely cause of anything like that unless there was some sort of allergic reaction. An allergic reaction would normally have occurred soon after starting the dog food rather than after an extended period of time feeding it. In general, lumps of unknown origin fall under the category of either tumors, abscesses, cystic structures, fatty deposits, or bug bites / allergic reactions. Without a physical exam and possibly some diagnostics by your veterinarian, we would only be able to guess at what we were looking at anyway. Hope this helps. Definitely get Jazmine on a normal cat food so as to prevent any nutritional deficiencies.
