Why is my cat aggressive when I take his rubber bands?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Scottish Fold | Male | unneutered | 8 months and 7 days old

Offa gets really mad when I take away his rubber bands. When I take his toys from him or a comb or alike. He doesn't react. But when I take away his rubber bands, its a whole different story of biting, scratching, hissing and not letting go. What's the reason of this behavior. He likes to chew them but he doesn't swallow them.

Since Offa misbehaves with this particular toy I would avoid giving it to him altogether. Also, rubber bands are frequently the cause of intestinal blockages in cats, which requires surgery and can be life threatening. Because of the dangerous potential I would recommend you stop allowing him to play with them at all.
