Does Dawn dish soap really kill fleas on cats and their eggs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed | 7 lbs

Hello, I've gotten two different answers with this question and wanted to know which one is true. If I bathe my cat with mild fleas once a week with Dawn dish soap mixed with salt to kill fleas and eggs, will they eventually go away? This includes vacuuming daily, washing bedding often, and combing frequently. Thank you!

Unfortunately, no. The eggs can live in very tight places for a very long time and can hatch when the environment is suitable. The Dawn will only kill the fleas for about 24 hours, but it won't remove the eggs. It will also dry out Ella's skin. The very best prevention is the monthly flea prevention. Keep in mind, not every product is the same and some can be harmful to kitties. I recommend picking up a product from a vet. Good luck and kisses to Ella!
