My dog's breath is awful! How do I get rid of my dog's bad breath?

My dogs breath regularly smells very bad, is there anything I could do to help this?

It's not uncommon in dogs, if his teeth looks dirty and full of tartar he probably needs a scale and polish dental treatment at the vets, if the teeth look very clean then it probably comes from the stomach and is usually related to the food he eats.

    You've done a lot of good things to try to help with Blake's bad breath, but because they haven't worked, I would recommend taking him into the vet. He may have a tooth root abscess, severe gingivitis, or a broken tooth causing his bad breath. The vet can do a dental scaling, cleaning, and polishing, which will help with his stinky breath.

Voodoo has terrible bad breath. Is there a product I can get for this? Or anything I can do?
Dogs with bad breath usually have terrible teeth...ie their teeth are full of tartar which harbors gas producing bacteria and that stinks. These bacteria also cause severe gingivitis (inflamed gums) which allows the bacteria to enter the blood stream and eventually cause heart and kidney problems. Another reason for bad breath could be a tooth root abscess, a wound in the oral cavity and renal failure. Please take Voodoo to a veterinarian for an exam to find the cause of the bad breath. Treatment can then be initiated, ie a dental cleaning, antibiotics to kill those bacteria and/or early detection of renal failure.

My dog has very bad breath and she has no teeth problems. Her teeth are tartar free.
Even without tartar sometimes the gums are inflamed, this is the first thing that needs to be checked. If it is not the gums then it usually comes from the stomach, it's not uncommon at all, sometimes changing the food to a better quality one can improve the smell.

The most common cause of tooth discoloration and bad breath is severe dental disease. Other possible causes would include a systemic illness like liver or kidney failure, or even diabetes. I would recommend having your dog examined by a vet as soon as you are able to - he/she can examine his mouth and teeth to check for excessive tartar build-up and infection, and can also do blood work or other testing if needed to help determine the problem.

My dachund is coming up to 6mobths old his breath smells very bad ?
It would be best to have a veterinarian do an exam on him. It’s possible he may have a wound on the roof of his mouth or back of his throat, or a piece of grass or a small twig stuck on a back tooth, etc, or a wound elsewhere in his mouth. It’s also possible that he’s having some tooth root problems with the recent eruption of adult teeth. If he is eating fine and otherwise acting normally, it’s ok to try brushing his teeth and try a rinse or water additive designed for halitosis (bad breath) in dogs. However if that doesn’t help after a few days, I would strongly recommend that you take him in. Thanks for asking Boop by Petco!

How do I clean or treat Mila's smelly breath?
At this age she most likely has bad breath due to Halle ptosis which is an accumulation of bacteria on the back of her tongue or the beginning stages of dental disease. You want to tackle this by brushing her teeth every day with a pet formulated toothpaste and toothbrush which you can find at your local pet store. You can also do oral rinses with a pet formulated rents also located at your pet store. If the bad breath continues then it is a good idea to have your veterinarian do a complete oral exam to make sure there are no other concerns that need to be addressed. I hope this helps!

My dog moth smell bad all of the teeth are bad
AT that age, dental disease is common. The odor and discolorations indicate an infection due to gingivitis and tartar build up. The only way to have that removed is the have her teeth cleaned at your vet. They can clean around the gums and polish teeth similar to how ours are done. They will remove any damaged or infected teeth. You will likely need antibiotics to go along with this to further treat the infection and continue with brushing to help prevent this again

How can I get rid of my dogs bad breath? I tried the Dental Gel from a brand that was recommended by vets on my dog but he would use all his strength and move a lot to get away.
You may want to have your vet examine Bow to make sure he doesn’t have any dental disease or other oral disease causing his bad breath. If your vet has already examined Bow your best bet would probably be to brush his teeth using a dog toothpaste. You should acclimate him slowly to tooth brushing and try to make it a good experience by pairing with treats. Try brushing for a very short period of time each day and stop if he starts to get upset.

How do I help my dogs very stinky breath? I've tried to brush his teeth, give him bones and even tried something I got from the store to put in his water. I love this boy soooo much but when he opens his mouth I can't be near his face.

Sometimes dogs will have bad breath that is due to their diet, or occasionally it can be a sign of gastrointestinal disease. Even though his teeth do have minimal tartar in your photo he still could have dental disease - most dental disease is below the gum line in dogs. You may want to have your vet examine Oscar’s mouth closely for any signs of a problem if the tub breath is new.

What can I do for my dogs bad breath? I give him dentastix by pedigree once a week and the first couple of days he is fine but by the end of the week his breath stinks again
At his age, the bad breath could be an abscess or the normal shedding of his puppy teeth. Take a good look inside his mouth to check for any abnormalities.
