What symptoms would alert me if my cat's calcium levels are too high?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 10 years old | 11.5 lbs

In 2014 my cats labs showed she had high calcium levels, 12.3. She was put on prednisolone for 7 months & after that she's never had issues again. She goes to the vet every 6 mths for labs & calcium is usually at about 10. if her calcium levels should go up in between those vet visits would there be any symptoms that might alert me to it?I was told there would only be symptoms if it were very elevated. she also was diagnosed with IBS around the same time 3 yrs ago & eats a special diet. Thx!

Symptoms of elevated calcium levels are rare indeed as the calcium level needs to be very high. this is a list of symptoms you could expect if the calcium levels become a problem: Extreme thirst (polydipsia) High production of diluted urine (polyuria) Pain when urinating (dysuria) Blood in the urine (hematuria) Frequent urination which may come only in drops (stranguria) Muscle weakness. Muscle twitching. Listlessness.
