My dog has a large red circle near her ear. What could it be?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 4 years and 3 months old | 19 lbs

I found this large red circle close to my dogs eat and I'm wondering what can that be ? I only found this out today.

This looks like a puncture wound that has become very irritated. Puncture wounds like this can be caused by sharp objects, foreign bodies and parasites (Bot flies). I would have Bella seen by your vet to have this area flushed out well to make sure no foreign bodies are inside and also to get her on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicaiton to get this to heal well. Best wishes at the vet and I hope smells gets this resolved soon.

    Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is hard to know for sure what you are referring to without being able to look at him or the lesion. I would highly recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment. They would be able to start with an exam and proceed with diagnostics as needed. Best of luck!
